Monkeys allowed to self-administer 'Ecstasy' do not show brain damage

What happens when you give a group of monkeys a pile of MDMA and a year and a half to use it? Binging, but no obvious brain damage, say researchers at the University of Michigan Medical School. The monkeys were given the ability to self-dose with MDMA at various times by pressing a button connected to an IV pump. Typically, the monkeys would self-administer 2-3 mg/kg of MDMA per session when given unrestricted access (comparable to many human users), but binges of as much as 15 mg/kg were also recorded (equivalent to a 145 pound human taking about 14 average 'ecstasy' tablets in a single session.) Total MDMA consumption over the 18 month period was in the range of 120-250 mg/kg (roughly equivalent to a 145 pound person taking 110-235 'ecstasy' tablets.)

I wonder if they did this study were a person, the U.S. government would secretly assasinate it and destroy all records of its existence?? Rolling Eyes

Poor Monkeys, least they got bunch of MDMA and coke before they died. Laughing

I know for sure it has positive effects on patients with Parkinson's desease.
XTC (mdma) is another excample of the government being not able to recognise there's less danger then they think. If it was really that bad, millions of people would be ill or die from it every single weekend but the truth is that it's less harmfull then frikkin Aspirine, check out the stats and you'll see I'm right. Viagra Kills even more people, talk about danerous drugs, viagra is a killer but no one cares becouse it comes from the industry.

Well, I did the same as those monkeys back before 2000, and I seem to be okay.

Archive: Peter Jennings Reporting, 'Ecstasy Rising'

From the ABC press release:
The rise of Ecstasy is a major event in drug history. If current trends continue, 1.8 million Americans will try Ecstasy for the first time in 2004; only marijuana will attract more new users. Overwhelming, positive word of mouth has made Ecstasy a nightmare for drug controllers. On a special edition of 'Primetime Thursday' Peter Jennings tells the epic story of Ecstasy that has never been heard.

In the 1990s, Ecstasy seemed to come out of nowhere to join marijuana, cocaine and heroin as one of the four most widely used illegal drugs in the country. No other drug has ever spread so fast. To halt its spread, the U.S. Government has spent millions of dollars making a dramatic case against Ecstasy as a dangerous drug. The headline of this campaign has been that Ecstasy causes massive brain damage.
But this is a claim based on flawed science, and many Ecstasy users now feel their government has no credibility. What do we know about the real risks of Ecstasy? Has the government been its own worst enemy in the fight to stop the drug's use? Peter Jennings Reporting: 'Ecstasy Rising' takes viewers through the seminal events in this story and introduces all the major players -- from Alexander Shulgin, the famous chemist who was the first person to report the effects of Ecstasy, to Michael Clegg, the Dallas businessman who gave Ecstasy its name and turned it into a recreational drug, to the drug enforcement officer who led the fight to make Ecstasy illegal, to the DJ who brought Rave to America. This special tells the definitive story of how an obscure compound, discovered in 1912 and all but forgotten for over 60 years, became the drug of choice for a generation.
This program was recorded in 5 parts and MPEG1 encoded files are made available in GNU/Linux gzip format and Windows/Mac zip format. In addition, several short segments advertising the Ecstasy Rising special were recorded and are also made available here. File sizes indicated are in megabytes.
