For immediate release…

There are several reasons you should come to Lakota Hemp Days.

1. Good timing. It’s being held from late afternoon Tuesday, August 21, through the morning of Thursday, August 23.

2. Good location. Kiza Park is located three miles north of Manderson on the Pine Ridge Reservation in southwest South Dakota .

3. Good occasion. Lakota Hemp Days is a celebration of the spirit of U.S. law and government, and a mourning for its continuous breach of the treaties between it and the Lakota nation.

4. Good times. World-class music Wednesday afternoon and evening, August 23. Sustainable living education groups.

5. Easy to get hold of us. Any questions about Lakota Hemp Days, ask…

Lakota Hemp Days was born in 2002, as we watched Alex White Plume--the only farmer within the borders of the United States to have planted, harvested, sold and delivered a crop of hemp since 1968--look in frustration at his buyer and at the pile of harvested hemp stalks at his feet, the fruit of his labor that he could no longer legally touch. Evil had just been perpetrated.
.......................
In 1998, the Oglala Sioux Tribal Council, the governing body of the sovereign Pine Ridge Reservation, repealed its laws barring hemp production. Alex White Plume and his family decided to acquire seeds and plant hemp. They planted in 2000.

In August of 2000, armed paramilitary terrorists wearing uniforms that announced “DEA” and “FBI” swept down on White Plume’s farm and held him and his family at gunpoint while they harvested and stole his crop. They then fled back to their strongholds in the United States .

In 2001, White Plume planted again. In August, the terrorists came back and made the family watch as they tortured the hemp with weedwhackers. Again the terrorists fled back to the U.S.

In each of those two years, Alex had contracted with manufacturers for his crop. Since there was no crop to deliver, the contract was not filled. In 2003, the White Plumes planted again.

This time, they were able to harvest a significant amount of hempstalks, which they had contracted to deliver to Madison Hemp and Flax, a Kentucky company.

However, U.S. Attorney Mark Vargo and U.S. District Judge Richard Battey conspired in Rapid City to issue an injunction against White Plume, barring him from even thinking about growing hemp, which they called both “hemp” and “marijuana” in the same document. They did this because they knew they could not convict him in front of a jury.

If, however, someone says he violated the injunction, Battey can simply put Alex in prison for 18 months without trying him—for “contempt of court”.

In August of 2002, Alex and Craig Lee, from Madison Hemp and Flax, looked at each other across a pile of hemp stalks that neither could touch.
.....................................

Ironically, feral hemp grows abundantly on Pine Ridge Reservation. We’re able to harvest plenty and make it “legal”, after which we can make stuff with it. Like the stuff we are auctioning now.

Every year since 2002, hemp enthusiasts from around the world have converged at Lakota Hemp Days, set against the striking South Dakota landscape. Enjoy first-hand the making of finished hemp products, from paper and insulation, to concrete and skin lotion.

The musical entertainment this year will be partially provided by New Primitives from Minneapolis , voted Minneapolis 's best reggae band three years running. This is a world-class band, mixing influences from everywhere. Far better than any band that played the Sturgis Rally.

Also performing are Sequoia and the Modern Day Warriors, a hip-hop bluesy rock band from Rapid City , SD.

The Organibis Kitchen will be serving organic food from vegan delights to buffalo burgers.

Lakota art on handmade pure hemp paper (made from feral hemp growing nearby) will be on display, and attendees are encouraged to create their own works and display their talents.

Take a horseback ride and learn more about the buffalo who freely roam Kiza Park , or rent a tipi and just kick back.

Check out the cob oven we built at Kiza Park . We’ll be baking in it.

Learn more about the wind and solar energy that completely powers the grounds, including the stage where rock, reggae, rap, native drums, and poetry jams light up the night, all overseen by High Times magazine’s own Dan Skye.

Attendees can visit the wild hemp fields, and shop a wide variety (a wider variety than any store this side of Seattle ) of hemp products from the Hempire vending station. We’ll play disc golf, polo, croquet, basketball, horseshoes and volleyball.

Admission is a suggested $20 donation per person. Tipis are available for $40 on a first-come, first-served basis. No one will be turned away for lack of ability to pay. Trades are welcomed. Proceeds will go to the White Plume Legal Fund.

Pine Ridge is adjacent to the Black Hills, so numerous motels are available in the area, but expect to drive to Kiza Park . If you are camping at the park, toilets and good fresh water are available, but bring warm and summer clothes, food, and camping gear. Kiza Park is a beautiful camping site.

Wasn't the wrong place bro, but I assumed that it gets a bit more attention here and I guessed that's what we both want.

Smile
