* This is an emergency alert from Americans for Safe Access. *

On May 21, federal agents arrsted medical cannabis patients Anna and Gary Barrett in San Bernadino. We are asking all medical cannabis supporters to rally in opposition to this raid at noon on Tuesday May 27th in front of the federal building in your city.

These demonstrations are a vital part of our grassroots opposition to the federal crackdown. Please make plans to attend and encourage others to do so. A few people demonstrating makes a huge diffence. Just call a few
friends and send out a press advisory to your local media outlets (call our office for a template release). We can not let these acts happen in silence!

Please check our web site or call the ASA office if you need additional information about the location of your federal building or other demonstration site. Please call our office and let us know if you will be having a rally.

Our web site is You can reach the CAN/ASA office directly at (510) 486-8083.

Thank you for your active support and participation.

Americans for Safe Access is an aggressive grassroots campaign designed to force the federal government to stop its attack on patients and respect the rights of voters to choose medical marijuana policy.

DEA Arrests Medical Marijuana Couple in San Bernardino Advocates Call for National Day of Action Against Feds

San Bernardino Co, CA - The DEA arrested Prop 215 patients Gary and Anna Barrett yesterday (May 21) on a federal grand jury indictment for marijuana cultivation. The Barretts had been outspoken advocates for years. May 9th
the couple had a case dismissed by a San Bernardino County Superior Court judge. The court ruled that the Barretts were "legitimate medical marijuana users under the Compassionate Use Act and entitled to grow the marijuana they were growing."

The Barretts' attorney, Daniel Halpern of San Jose, accused county law enforcement officials of conspiring to hand over the Barretts' case to the
feds in order to get a conviction.

"This couple joins forty other medical marijuana patients and caregivers facing federal prosecution, suspiciously all have worked to implement the Compassionate Use Act of 1996. This couple has already been exonerated by the California courts," said Steph Sherer, Executive Director of Americans for Safe Access. "We are calling for medical marijuana advocates around the country to protest at their local federal buildings on Tuesday May 27th to tell the Bush administration to stop arresting patients of medical marijuana patients to stop now!"

The grand jury charged the Barretts with three different marijuana grows,
one in San Luis Obispo County with an alleged 550 plants in 2001, and two subsequent gardens in San Bernardino County (134 plants and 34 plants) in 2002-3. The Barretts were first arrested by the San Bernardino County sheriffs in 1999. Under a plea agreement, they were put on probation but allowed to continue growing up to 34 plants and 7 pounds of marijuana for their personal medical use. They continued to undergo routine checks and were arrested two more times in San Luis Obispo and San Bernardino. The Barretts had been suing San Bernardino County for return of marijuana that had been seized from them in police raids.
